Thanks for a great weekend of the all ladies fishing classic, we 'cat fish queens with barra dreams' had a blast and will differently be back again next year...

Well done, Bev Yeah that's a big call to kick off a comp, especially with those extra barriers. Anyone who's done a few comps would appreciate all the work that's involved - Good luck with it all.

Testimonials
We entered a fantastic women's comp called the Lady Fishers, Barra Classic, held at Awoonga Dam on the 1st-4th November run by Bev Cheffins. Let me tell you it is one of the best women's comp we have entered.
Bev made it a very "fun" comp for all and did her upmost best to keep the anglers happy. Not only did she receive exceptional sponsorship, (Shimano, River2Sea, Tackleworld, Ugly Fish, Shakespeare, Kokoda, Goodger Wind-on-Leaders...to name a few) she had a few people talk to us on the best lures to use, how to troll etc. (Thanks Jason) and also a session on tying knots.
All the anglers received Shimano backpacks filled with goodies including a brag mat each to measure the fish before releasing. This is definitely a comp the ladies should enter next year.
Although the fish were a little hard to find, due to the Lions Club comp the previous weekend, there were a few good fish caught around the weed beds. (Caught on lures and soft plastics). Our team caught a 105cm where the winning Junior, Shayne, caught a monster measuring 114.5cm.
A huge thank you to all the sponsors who helped out Bev. Fishing comps would be extremely hard to run without their support.
If anyone is interested in next years' comp keep an eye out on the official Lady Fishers website.

SEQ Flyfishers Forum

We have all read Bev's report on the Ladyfishers Lake Awoonga Barra Classic #1 but are probably not aware of the background. The "lady fishers" is a long held dream of Bev's who has battled severe chauvinism in the gamefishing and sportfishing circles over many years despite ( or maybe because of) taking out many comps and holding quite a number of records and it must bring her great personal pride to have achieved the results this comp. has brought her. This unique ladies only comp. owes it's success entirely to Bev's efforts, sure she had some assistance on the days, but that was the fun bit when everyone wanted to help. The concept was Bev's, gathering up the necessary sponsors was all Bev's work, arranging accommodation, meals and all of the comp's logistics were the result of Bev's efforts. Promotion, advertising, gaining the lady entrant's support and trust together with convincing the support people from Gladstone Sportfishers of the viability and value of the concept was also entirely due to Bev's efforts, skill and persistance. She is deserving of the highest congratulations and now it is expected and hoped that the "Ladyfishers" evolve into several comps. throughout the year and become important landmarks on the angling calendar.

Congratulations lively ladies, well done on the 105!
As I said in the presentation, the going will be tough, but persist and it will pay.
You all certainly looked like you knew how to have a good time, hopefully will see you around again next year!
The junior fish, the 114 is a cracker, bet Shayne will be hooked for life.
Hope to see you all (and more )next year, come and support this great event, have some wine, have a fish, and have plenty of laughs!

I'd just like to say a big thank you for organising a great tournament. We will definitely be back next year.
Thanks

We had a great time. Found everyone to be helpful, friendly and full of fun. Although we only caught the one barra (82cm) we will be back next year to hopefully catch more. We caught ours on a bandit lure - gold and black I think. Well done for great start to what should become a great comp.

I will second that, Bev has done a great job on her first competition, may her success continue into the future.
Could not agree more. Here is a lady who not only 'talks the talk' she 'walks the walk'!! Outstanding effort Bev. Congratulations
