This year was the first time it has rained during the tournament since it began and it certainly made up for lost time. With all the flooding in the towns from the continual rains during the year, we had a very wet and soggy event. The dam was overflowing with many barra being washed over the dam wall and into the Boyne River below. The rains stopped for a short time on the first morning which gave the girls time to participate in the Sailpast, without spoiling all their wonderful costumes and decorations which they put so much time and effort into. This year the theme for the tournament was ‘The Mad Hatters Party” and the Sailpast was really exceptional. One of the new teams this year had the tea party set up on their boat and the winning team had made a huge effort with a complete farmyard scene.
Everyone was keen to fish even with all the torrential rain. The girls really enjoyed themselves and they were a ton of fun over the tournament.
Thursday evening the girls were treated to a great BBQ before the briefing and the handing out of the angler packs which contained a variety of lures from our sponsors, a brag mat, Freshwater & Bluewater magazines and the annual Lady Fishers calendar and hat. The Presentation Night is always a fun night with the marquee decorated in the theme and the girls and their partners arrive in some fantastic costumes. After a hot roast dinner and sweets it was time for the presentation.
There were great prizes on offer from our many sponsors and as there were no winning entries in the captures, prizes were awarded for the best decorated boats and costumes and many lucky angler draws which gave each angler a chance to take home a great prize.
One of the great things about the tournament is the family involvement. The husbands and partners really support the ladies and get involved in the whole theme of the tournament. The same families have come back year and year and it’s great to see them all get together and catch up. The cabins are all together and there is always a party going on in one of them and everyone wanders over and joins in the fun.
